MALLORCA TODAY - Manzano returns to Real Mallorca

Following the sacking of Joaquín Caparrós, Real Mallorca have turned once more to Gregorio Manzano. His appointment means that he will have his third spell as Mallorca's coach. He was in charge during the 2002-2003 season when he took the team to victory in the Copa del Rey and then again from 2006 to 2010. His greatest achievement during this second spell was to get Mallorca up to fifth in La Liga and so to qualify for the Europa League, a qualification which was then denied to the club because of concerns that UEFA had regarding the club's finances. He left in 2010 amidst controversy and a falling-out with the board (and then owner of the club) over non-payment of his salary. His most recent coaching appointment was with Atlético Madrid (for the second time), where he lasted only six months, dismissed because the team was languishing in mid-table halfway through the 2011-2012 season. Manzano's return will probably be welcomed by most Mallorca supporters. He has brought some relative success in the past. For now, the most important task is to keep Mallorca in the top flight.
